# Water Monitoring for Housing Societies in Pune

TownEve Editorial Team · September 28, 2026

Water problems in a residential society are rarely limited to one tank.

A multi-tower property may have underground raw-water storage, treated or domestic-water storage, recycled-water storage, transfer pumps and several overhead tanks distributed across towers. When the people responsible for the property cannot see what is happening across that system, an operational problem can remain unnoticed until residents experience it.

TownEve provides continuous water-tank monitoring for housing societies in Pune and across India. The system combines contactless ultrasonic sensors, a society-level communication architecture and software that gives authorized users live and historical visibility into monitored tanks.

## Built from a live Pune deployment

TownEve's water-monitoring system is deployed at [Park Astra in Pune](https://www.towneve.com/resources/park-astra-case-study). Park Astra has 10 residential towers. Each tower has three overhead water tanks serving drinking water, domestic water and STP recycled water, giving the property 30 overhead tanks across the three water types. Underground storage is also part of the monitoring deployment.

## From manual checks to continuous visibility

A manual inspection is useful, but it only shows the level at the moment somebody checks the tank. A problem can begin between inspections. Continuous monitoring preserves the sequence.

TownEve records tank-level measurements over time so the operating team can see whether a tank is filling, depleting or behaving differently from the expected pattern.

## What happened during pump-trip incidents at Park Astra

On two reported occasions, an email alert was received and the TownEve application was opened for investigation. Historical data showed tank levels continuing to decline over time across multiple towers.

The pumping system was investigated, an interruption in the pumping sequence was identified, and the pumps were restarted before the affected overhead tanks emptied.

TownEve did not automatically restart the pumps. The monitoring system provided the visibility and history that helped the responsible team investigate and act.

## Monitoring different water types

At Park Astra, the monitored overhead-tank network includes drinking water, domestic water and STP recycled water. Underground tanks can also be monitored where they form useful points in the water journey.

## Why monitor underground and overhead tanks together?

Consider a simplified path: incoming water → underground storage → transfer system → overhead tank → residents.

If only the overhead tank is visible, the operating team can see that the tank is falling. If relevant upstream storage is also monitored, the team has additional context. These patterns help guide investigation, but tank-level data alone does not prove the electrical state or exact fault of a particular pump.

## Contactless ultrasonic monitoring

TownEve uses ultrasonic sensors mounted above the water surface. The sensor measures the distance to the water and uses the configured tank geometry to calculate useful storage information such as water level, percentage full and estimated stored volume where geometry supports it. The sensing element does not need to remain immersed in the stored water.

## One connected monitoring layer for the society

Sensors at each tower connect through a tower-level slave module. The slave modules communicate over radio frequency with one society-level master module. The master aggregates monitoring data and sends it to the TownEve backend through an internet connection.

**Tank sensors → tower slave module → RF → society master → internet → TownEve application**

## Live information and historical context

Depending on the deployment and user permissions, authorized users can access current tank levels, percentage full, estimated stored litres, historical tank-level trends, multiple monitored tanks, individual accounts, role-based access and configured alerts.

## Alerts and human response

TownEve's current production platform supports email alerts. An alert is the beginning of an operating response, not a substitute for one. The society still needs to decide who receives the notification, who investigates the water system and who takes the appropriate action.

## Monitoring versus automatic pump control

TownEve currently provides monitoring, historical visibility and email alerts. Direct pump-state monitoring and remote or automated pump control are in development and testing. Where automation is eventually used, it requires additional electrical integration, safety logic, manual override and fail-safe behaviour.

## Can TownEve calculate water consumption?

TownEve can calculate changes in stored water volume from tank-level history. Whether those changes can be interpreted as consumption depends on the water system. If a tank is being refilled while residents are consuming water, observed level is the net result of inflow and outflow and should not be described as exact consumption.

Known pump-OFF observation windows can make outflow estimation more direct where there is no other inflow path. TownEve has tested manually controlled no-inflow observation and valve-isolation methods and continues to refine them. Storage decline can estimate withdrawal when the operating boundary is sufficiently controlled; physical investigation establishes the cause. Direct pump-state monitoring and automated pump or valve operation remain separate development layers. Future flow-meter instrumentation can add direct flow measurements for more granular consumption analytics.

## Designed for Pune, available across India

TownEve's current operating base and live reference deployment are in Pune. That local experience makes Pune and the Pune-Mumbai region practical markets for TownEve, but the product is not restricted to one city. TownEve serves housing societies across India and evaluates genuine opportunities based on the property's requirements.

## What should a Pune housing society assess first?

Before asking vendors for quotations, map the actual water system: the number of towers, each overhead and underground tank, water types, approximate dimensions and capacity, relationships between storage points, pump and transfer locations, available power, possible master-module location, internet connectivity options and the people who need software access.

Do not begin with price per sensor. A complete monitoring deployment can also involve tower communication modules, a central master, installation, electrical work, connectivity, software and ongoing support. TownEve provides commercial proposals after understanding the actual deployment scope.

## Request a Pune society water assessment

If your housing society in Pune is evaluating water monitoring, TownEve can review the tank network and recommend an appropriate monitoring architecture.

## FAQ

### Does TownEve serve housing societies outside Pune?

Yes. TownEve is available for housing societies across India. Pune is TownEve's current operating base and the location of its Park Astra reference deployment, not a restriction on where the system can be deployed.

### Can TownEve monitor a large multi-tower society?

Yes. The architecture uses tower-level slave modules communicating over RF with one society-level master.

### Can it monitor underground and overhead tanks?

Yes, subject to tank geometry and installation conditions.

### Does the sensor touch the water?

No. TownEve uses top-mounted contactless ultrasonic sensing.

### Does TownEve automatically control pumps?

The current released platform provides monitoring and alerts. Direct pump integration and remote or automatic control are in development and testing.

### Does TownEve publish standard pricing?

TownEve prepares proposals based on the property's actual monitoring scope. Contact TownEve for a scoped assessment and quotation.

### Is Park Astra a real TownEve deployment?

Yes. Park Astra in Pune is a live TownEve water-monitoring deployment and can be referenced publicly with the society's permission.
